Major Ski Areas near Chamonix piste map
The wider Chamonix piste area offers far more skiing and snowboarding. However, the ski resorts are not all interconnected and require buses, cars etc to get around. Yet, this area features several separate ski domains, each with its own unique character and level of difficulty. This variety means there’s something for every skier. But the ski domain is particularly in line for those who seek steep, technical slopes and off-piste adventure.

- Grands Montets (Argentière) – The most famous area. Known for steep, challenging terrain, extensive off-piste, glacier skiing and high-altitude snow reliability.
- Brévent-Flégère – Incredible views of Mont Blanc, ideal for intermediates and advanced skiers.
- Le Tour (Balme) – More gentle, rolling terrain perfect for beginners and intermediates.
- Les Houches – Forested slopes with more sheltered skiing. Perfect in stormy weather and great for families.
- Aiguille du Midi / Vallée Blanche – Accessible by cable car to 3,842m, offering one of the world’s most famous off-piste descents: a 20km glacier run requiring a guide.

Accommodation in Chamonix
Most easily accessible through the closest airports, being Geneva (GVA) & Lyon St Exupéry (LYS).
You can find accommodation in Chamonix mostly around the historic and vibrant town of Chamonix or in one of the smaller, surrounding villages. The Chamonix valley ski areas are not interconnected and one location is not particularly the best, you will need to explore via bus or car if you want to venture further out.
Chamonix town has plenty to offer, bars, restaurants, shops and more amenities. Chamonix isn’t cheap however, with beautiful hotels available, immaculate guest houses and apartments and luxurious Chamonix chalets. Although, you can find bargains and cheaper Chamonix accommodation if you look hard enough.
