The Bansko ski map and resort is located at the foot of the Pirin Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria. One of the country’s most popular and internationally recognised ski resorts. It’s worth starting off that Bansko is Bulgaria’s largest ski area, with over 70 kilometres of piste to explore. Sitting at just over 900 metres, with skiing reaching up to 2,560m, Bansko offers a surprisingly high-altitude experience for Eastern Europe.
The Bansko piste map is served by a solid network of gondolas and chairlifts. The resort is also known for its long ski season, often running from mid-December to mid-April, thanks to natural snowfall combined with extensive snowmaking infrastructure.
Perfect for beginners and those looking to improve. At Bansko you can expect to reach heights of near 2600m at the Togopka peak with plenty of red and blue runs to explore from the summit all the way back down to the base at just over 900m. Nevertheless there are a few black runs are thrown in for good measure, but if you’ve an expert, you may find a challenge elsehwere.
However, with 1 main access gondola being the main negative, as you can imagine with only one way up, this can get pretty busy.
Bansko Town
A relatively large town with plenty of restaurants, food and drinks options as well as accommodation, you’ll be pleasantly surprised when compared to such skiing areas like the Alps.
One of Bansko’s highlights is its blend of traditional Bulgarian culture and modern ski facilities. The old town is full of cobblestone streets, historic buildings and traditional taverns serving local dishes, live folk music and cosy fires.
Whereas the area near the gondola station is more modern, with hotels, bars, clubs, and shops catering to international visitors. Newer buildings have continued to crop up over the years, coinciding with the increased investment.
Activities In Bansko
So if skiing or snowboarding doesn’t take your fancy you’ll have other activities to choose. Off the slopes visitors can enjoy plenty. From nearby thermal spa towns like Banya to enjoy, to more active pursuits such as snowshoeing and winter hiking. Alternatively there’s ice skating, Historic tours of the old town as well as the infamous après-ski and live music venues.
In summer, the Bansko mountains attract hikers, climbers, and cyclists.

Accommodation in Bansko
Bansko accommodation centres at the villages base. Varying hotels of 2 to 5 stars but all relatively affordable, particularly when comparing to Bulgaria’s European ski counterparts in say, Austria or France.
Predominantly served by hotels, although scattered with nice self-catering style apartments and lodgings, similarly to Borovets. You’re able to choose from luxury hotels, mid-range apartments, traditional guesthouses, and budget-friendly stays. All making the resort suitable for families, couples, groups, and solo travellers.
There is however an abundance of self-catering apartments, ideal for groups, longer stays and those working on a budget. These range from simple studios to full-service aparthotels with spa amenities. Self-catering options give visitors flexibility, especially given the resort’s excellent and affordable restaurants.
