The Bláfjöll piste maps sits within a rugged, lava-shaped mountain region south of Reykjavík. The terrain is wide and rolling rather than extremely steep, making it ideal for families, beginners and intermediates. Yet, still provides fun for advanced skiers on its more challenging runs.

Bláfjöll is the largest ski resort in Iceland, with approximately 30 kilometres of piste to explore with a healthy variety of lifts, including drag lifts and chairlifts, taking you around heights of around 460 to 700 metres. Of course, not high, but it doesn’t need to be with Iceland’s cold climate.

The scenery at Bláfjöll is striking, snow-covered volcanic hills, open slopes that feel far removed from the busy world despite being close to the city. Known for its friendly atmosphere, accessibility, and reliable artificial snow support during lower-snow years.

One of Bláfjöll’s best features is its extensive night skiing. The resort is well-lit, providing long evenings on the slopes, which is needed with Iceland’s short days in the winter. Furthermore, on clear nights, skiers may even see the Northern Lights dancing above.

Although the largest ski resort in Iceland, Bláfjöll’s facilities are relatively limited. However, amenities include warm cafés, serving hot drinks and food, ski equipment rentals, ski school and plenty of parking for day trips.

Location & accessibility is also what makes Bláfjöll’s a relatively popular choice, with easy access to the capital Reykjavík, only 30 minutes drive away.

Bláfjöll accommodation is very limited. Most will opt to stay in nearby Reykjavík. Here you have a wide selection of hotels, guesthouses and apartments as well as easy transport links and rental car access.

There is no ski-in ski-out hotels at Bláfjöl, however with Reykjavík nearby as well as the small inland town of Hveragerði which also provides accommodation options, you’re sure to find something.
