Shigakogen Mountain Resort Ski Map
The Shigakogen Mountain Resort ski map and area (志賀高原) is Japan’s largest ski resort by skiable area. Located high in the mountains of Nagano Prefecture, within Joshinetsu Kogen National Park. Famous for its vast, interconnected terrain, excellent snow quality, and a quiet, traditional atmosphere. Feeling very different from busier resorts like Hakuba or Niseko.
Heights within the Shiga Kogen piste map range from around 1,300 metres to just over 2,300 metres, being one of Japan’s highest lift-served points. 18 small interconnected ski areas provide in excess of 80 runs and around 50 lifts whisk you around the slopes, of which over 80 kilometres of piste awaits.
Shiga Kogen is a collection of resorts linked together, allowing long ski journeys between areas like Ichinose, Takamagahara, Yakebitaiyama, Okushiga Kogen, and Yokoteyama. Focussed around beginners and intermediate skiers, with wide, groomed pistes and long, rolling runs. Many gentle slopes make it beginner-friendly too, particularly around Ichinose. Whereas experts and advanced riders may find challenges in some off piste areas.

Evenings are calm and relatively low-key, with hotel dinners, lounges, and Onsen’s rather than wild, aprés style nightlife.
