Les Portes du Soleil forms one of the largest ski areas in Europe and the welcome, coming in at a staggering ski area totalling around 580km of piste to explore.
Located in the Haute-Savoie region and conveniently located an hour away from Geneva airport, Portes du Soleil is a very popular area to ski, with a lot of the tourism focussed around the villages of Les Gets and Morzine and the resort of Avoriaz that pulls in a younger crowd.

However roughly consisting of 12 areas – Abondance, Avoriaz, Châtel, La Chapelle d’Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzine-Avoriaz, St Jean d’Aulps, Champéry, Morgins, Torgon and Val-d’Illiez with Les Crosets and Champoussin.

- Avoriaz – Purpose-built, car-free, ski-in/ski-out resort with mostly apartments and residences. Lively aprés.
- Morzine – Traditional Alpine town with a wide choice of hotels, chalets, apartments. Lively aprés too.
- Les Gets – Pretty village feel with a mix of chalets and apartments.
- Châtel – Spread-out village with traditional Savoyard architecture
- Swiss Resorts (Champéry, Morgins, Torgon) – Typically quieter and more traditional
